SUMMARY:Jailhouse Rock! with Lincoln County Historical Association
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to rock around the jailhouse block \nIt’s party time at the Old Lincoln County Jail on Federal Street in Wiscasset! Gather your friends and family for a rousing good time at Jailhouse Rock on Saturday\, August 8\, beginning at 5pm. Jailhouse Rock is an event for all ages with dancing\, food\, lawn games\, and tours of the jail cells.  \nThe stewardship committee of Lincoln County Historical Association’s (LCHA) Old Jail invites young and old for an evening of music by the jazz-rock-blues band\, Leopard Girls\, and their set of foot-tapping music.  \nBring your own picnic or purchase food at the jail. Event organizers have partnered with Wiscasset Partners in Education to sell picnic fare at reasonable prices to benefit school programs. In addition\, kids and kids-at-heart will participate in games and races\, and those interested in glimpsing the austere cells in the 215 year-old granite jailhouse will be treated to brief tours. \nPartygoers should note that arrests have been made at this event in the past for rocking too hard. It might just happen again. Perhaps you have a deviant friend\, kid\, or spouse who needs to be locked up. The “sheriff” will be taking requests. Be sure to have some cash on hand to bail them out. \nTickets for adults are just $5; kids are free. Jailhouse Rock will be held rain or shine. Visit the LCHA website at lincolncountyhistory.org to purchase tickets online. \nThe Lincoln County Old Jail is located at 133 Federal Street in Wiscasset. \nLincoln County Historical Association is a non-profit organization that provides stewardship for the 1754 Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta\, the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden\, and the 1811 Old Jail and Museum in Wiscasset. For more information\, please visit www.lincolncountyhistory.org or Facebook at Lincoln County Historical Association (Maine). \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOld Jail\, 133 Federal Street\, Wiscasset\, Maine

SUMMARY:Plein Air: Paint It Maine & The Art of Alchemy Artists Reception
DESCRIPTION:Artists explore midcoast nature preserves for Maine Art Gallery’s “Plein Air: Paint It Maine!” event \nThe woods\, meadows\, lakes and streams of midcoast Maine have always beckoned to artists who enjoy working outdoors — en plein air. This year\, the Maine Art Gallery (MAG) has encouraged the 18 plein air artists who have been chosen to participate in their annual “Paint It Maine!” event to use some of their time to paint in one of the many midcoast nature preserves that are maintained by Midcoast Conservancy\, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. \nRunning concurrently with “Paint it Maine!” is a juried collage and mixed media show on the second floor of the gallery\, “The Art of Alchemy.” \nBoth shows open on Thursday\, July 30 when the gallery will be open late for Wiscasset’s evening Art Walk. A reception with the artists will be held on Saturday\, August 1 from 4:30-6:30 with music by jazz pianist Sean Fleming. Regular gallery hours are 11-4\, Thursday through Sunday\, through September 6. \nMidcoast Conservancy’s preserves include land where legacy Maine Art Gallery artist Joseph Fiore created his art. He cleared the brush\, maintained trails\, and painted its vistas. Several of his paintings are on loan to MAG for exhibit alongside the wet paintings by contemporary artists in the show. A panel discussion\, “Why We Like Painting Plein Air\,” will be held at the gallery on August 13 at 4:30pm. \n“The Art of Alchemy: Collage/Mixed Media Exploration\,” a juried show on the second floor of the gallery\, allows artists the opportunity to combine multiple mediums in one work. Originating with Picasso and his Cubist colleagues\, the collage technique has evolved to offer a wide range of representational and abstract possibilities. Mixed media is broader than collage\, encompassing it and any form of combining different media\, such as assemblage\, to create a work of art. \nThe Maine Art Gallery is grateful to Barnes Custom Window Treatments for sponsorship of “Plein Air: Paint It Maine!” and to J. Edward Knight Insurance for its sponsorship of “The Art of Alchemy: Collage/Mixed Media Exploration.” \nA nonprofit organization\, the Maine Art Gallery is dedicated to the advancement and preservation of the visual\, fine and applied arts through exhibitions\, lectures\, demonstrations and educational programs for children and adults since 1958. More information can be found at www.maineartgallerywiscasset.org and on Facebook at Maine Art Gallery Wiscasset. The gallery is located at 15 Warren Street\, Wiscasset.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Docent Training - Lincoln County Historical Association
DESCRIPTION:The Lincoln County Historical Association (LCHA) warmly invites community members curious about volunteering in its historic house museums to attend its upcoming Docent College program\, taking place May 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Maine Tasting Center in Wiscasset. Both seasoned and first-time docents are encouraged to participate. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLCHA has opportunities for new volunteers at all three of its historic properties: the Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta\, the Pownalborough Court House in Dresden\, and the Old Jail in Wiscasset.\n\n\nThis free program offers a welcoming introduction to what it means to serve as a volunteer tour guide at LCHA’s historic sites. Those simply interested in learning more are encouraged to attend. No prior experience is necessary. At the same time\, experienced docents will find fresh insights\, updates\, and engaging discussion tailored to enrich their work as well.\n\n\nThe program is designed not only to provide an overview of the upcoming season\, but also to facilitate sharing between new volunteers and longtime docents. Through interactive discussion\, attendees will explore best practices for leading engaging tours and learn directly from experienced guides.\n\n\nA professional tour guide will also offer practical tips and techniques to help docents build confidence and create memorable visitor experiences throughout the summer.\n\n\nParticipants may choose to serve at one or multiple sites. Following the main session\, each site will host a companion gathering\, giving participants the chance to dive into site-specific information while continuing to build community with fellow docents.\n\n\nVolunteer opportunities are flexible and based on individual availability. The Pownalborough Court House is open Thursday\, Saturday\, and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\, while the Chapman-Hall House and Old Jail are open Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Docents may choose to serve as greeters or tour guides\, and new volunteers will have the opportunity to shadow experienced docents before leading tours on their own.\n\n\nDocent College is open to all interested people and there is no obligation to commit to volunteering for the full season.\n\n\nLight refreshments will be provided\, and the program promises an engaging and welcoming experience.\n\n\nAdvance registration is requested. SUMMARY:Divided Loyalties - LCHA & Old Bristol Historical Society Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Divided Loyalties: Loyalists and the American Revolution as a Civil War in Maine with speaker Michael Dekker\n\nTogether with Old Bristol Historical Society\, LCHA is pleased to present a lecture that examines the American Revolution through a unique lens with Michael Dekker as he presents Divided Loyalties: Loyalists and the American Revolution as a Civil War in Maine.\nThe American Revolution was not just a break from Imperial Great Britain – it was America’s first civil war. In Maine\, neighbors\, families\, and communities were divided by competing notions of patriotism. Divided Loyalties examines how intimidation\, coercion\, and legal sanctions were used to enforce ideological conformity\, as well as the strategies employed by individuals who resisted these pressures.\nThrough the experiences of ordinary people\, the program exposes the harsh realities of mob violence\, political disenfranchisement\, and personal recrimination during the Revolution in Maine. The presentation concludes by tracing how deep social and political fractures were mended after the war\, revealing the processes through which individuals and communities sought reconciliation\, stability\, and renewed cohesion in the aftermath of the American Revolution.\n\nHistorian Mike Dekker specializes in 17th and 18th-century Maine and New England. He is the author of the book The French and Indian Wars In Maine and is a contributing author to the book 1718-2018: Reflections on 300 Years of the Scots Irish in Maine. Mike offers talks and educational programming on a range of topics\, including the 17th-century cod fishing industry and its relation to the current state of the Gulf of Maine fisheries. He regularly provides living history programming pertaining to 17th-century Maine at the Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site.\n\nBristol Mills Congregational Church\n1261 Bristol Rd\nBristol\, ME 04539 United
