Each April, Second Chance Month is highlighted to emphasize the importance of helping individuals, communities, and agencies across the country that play an essential role in supporting the safe and successful reentry of millions of people returning from incarceration each year. To this end we say THANK YOU to all of those support staff that assist in preventing/reducing recidivism in Maine’s juvenile and adult populations. The Reentry Employment Opportunities (REO) community is excited to celebrate Second Chance Month to inform and raise awareness of the many opportunities available to support people with justice involvement. Visit the REO community on WorkforceGPS. Please note, having a job is a huge support to reducing recidivism; connecting people to the Maine JobLink system and to the Maine CareerCenters can help with this cause.
Also important to note is that the second week in April is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week; these dedicated workers are the ones that allow us to sleep at night knowing that if something is wrong we can call them and they will have our backs. Severely overworked and underappreciated, this week is a time to thank them for all they do to keep us safe. If you know anyone looking for work that has a very calm demeaner have them take a look here at all the job openings that exist in this field.
