Midcoast Conservancy Offers Edible Plant Walk at Riverbrook Preserve
Late spring in Maine is a lush moment of fiddleheads, nettles, beech leaves, cattail shoots, and so much more! For anyone who wonders what they can do with all this abundance and also steward the land at the same time, this program offers a chance to explore those goals.
All are invited to join forager and wild food cook Rachel Alexandrou at Riverbrook Preserve in Waldoboro on Sunday, June 4th, from 10 am to noon, to walk and learn about late spring wild edibles. The walk will last 1.5 hours and end with a wild tasting made by Rachel to give participants a glimpse into what they can do with the local wild flora.
Riverbrook Preserve comprises 371 acres situated on the bank of the Medomak River, and includes over a mile of freshwater river frontage. Rare species of plants are found in the many wetlands and along the river edge. There is an old mill site and signs of beaver life on Meadow Brook.
Foraging will require walking on uneven terrain. No experience is required. Attendees should bring sturdy shoes, a water bottle, a notebook and writing utensil. The group will be identifying more than foraging on this walk, so no need to bring any tools.
The cost for the program is $35 for Midcoast Conservancy members and $40 for non-members. Please note that registration is required and capacity is limited. To sign up, go to https://www.midcoastconservancy.org/events-list/edible-plant-walk.
