The idea was sparked during a Shiitake mushroom log inoculation event hosted by North Spore, where Lana Allen met Louis Giller, the events and education coordinator at North Spore.
The concept revolves around a guided foray into the enchanting world of mushrooms, led by experts who delve into the identification and exploration of these natural wonders. Following the foray, attendees are treated to a delectable meal accompanied by captivating demonstrations, all orchestrated to celebrate the synergy between nature’s bounty and fine dining.
The inaugural event, held at Water Street Kitchen and Bar, was met with resounding success. Renowned Naturalist and author David L. Spahr, acclaimed for “Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms of New England and Eastern Canada,” graced the occasion as the esteemed guest of honor. Together with Louis Giller, Spahr guided participants through the foray, identifying various mushroom species and later sharing a sumptuous meal.
Building upon this triumph, the 2023 Forage & Feast event is poised to exceed expectations. This year’s special guest of honor is Nina Interlandi Bell, a beloved television personality and author of “Foraging for the Rest of Us.” Bell is set to tantalize taste buds as the head chef, infusing her unique culinary prowess into a carefully curated menu in collaboration with Lana Allen, inspired by their passion for foraging. The events itinerary includes a delightful cocktail hour with decadent grazing boards, followed by a gastronomic experience featuring some of Bell’s signature recipes, including dessert.
