Late summer/early fall in Maine is a time of harvest. Fruits and nuts drop from the trees. For anyone wondering what todo with all this abundance and to steward the land while at the same time is encouraged to attend Midcoast Conservancy’s “Edible Plant Walk: Focus on Acorns” on Sunday, September 24th from 10 am to 12 pm at the Bass Falls Preserve in Alna. This plant walk will cover many edibles, but especially focus on acorn harvest and processing.
Participants will join forager and wild food cook Rachel Alexandrou to walk and learn about late spring wild edibles. The walk will last 1.5 hours and end with a wild tasting made by Rachel to give the group a glimpse into what they can do with the local wild flora.
Foraging will require walking on uneven terrain. No other experience is required. To register, go to https://www.midcoastconservancy.org/events-list/processing-acorns-workshop.
