Empty Hand, Empty Brush: Asian Brush Painting with Kichung Lizee, June 10, 9:30am – 1:30pm. Eastern calligraphy is a type of meditation and also a discipline in centering–starting from the correct postural alignment of the spine, to preparing calligraphic ink, holding the brush correctly as an extension of the arm, and executing the brush stroke in oneness. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to integrate mindfulness and creative expression. Experienced artists and beginners are welcome. MAG member $60; nonmember $65. Adults only. Signup deadline June 4.
Plein Air Pastel and Mixed Media with Jude Valentine, July 7 and 8, 10 am – 3 pm each day. Have a box of soft pastels in your studio that you never use or work in another media but want to jazz things up a bit? Bring your curiosity to experiment and your pastels to this hands-on workshop, where we combine soft pastel with acrylic, watercolor or gouache; or a combination of all three. We’ll experiment with techniques to create atmospheric and landscape effects, as well as work with effects for still life, paying attention to how texture can be a tool for composition. MAG member $180, non-member $190. Adults only. Signup deadline June 30.
Discover Your Inner Artist with Kat Logan, July 14, 9am – 4pm with a break for lunch. This workshop is designed specifically for those who believe they can’t draw—because you absolutely can, and in just one day of artistic exploration. You’ll learn to see the world through an artist’s eyes and let your pencil flow freely. All materials will be provided. MAG member $110, non-member $120. Adults only. Signup deadline July 10.
Exploring Watercolor: The 3 Layer Method with Deena Ball,July 21. Two separate classes that may be combined, 9am – 12 pm and 1pm – 3pm. Beginners welcome.
